Orthodontics

The following Consultants accept appropriate referrals across North Wales:

All Orthodontic referrals MUST be made using the Universal Orthodontic Referral Form

An accompanying letter providing additional detail along with radiographs is perfectly acceptable.

Maxillo Facial Surgery

Referrals are accepted from GDPs for all aspects of maxillo facial surgery that fall without the capability of the referring dentist but inappropriate referrals will be sent back if it is the view of the Consultant that the work is simple enough be carried out in Primary Care.

All referrals by GDPs to Maxillo-Facial must include the following:

  1. A letter giving detail of the reason for the referral. The letter should include the history of the complaint signs, symptoms and any other relevant information that will help to inform the consultant
  2. Where appropriate an up to date radiograph (on a CD if digital radiography is used) showing the whole of the tooth if the referral is for impacted wisdom teeth is essential
  3. A medical history of the patient
  4. Referrals for suspected cancer cases should be marked for the urgent attention of the Consultant and the Practice should have protocols in place to ensure that the referral has been received by the recipient

INAPPROPRIATE REFERRALS THAT DO NOT INCLUDE ENOUGH INFORMATION, SATISFACTORY RADIOGRAPHS AND A MEDICAL HISTORY WILL BE SENT BACK TO THE REFERRING DENTIST.

The restorative consultant based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital is Dr Gareth Brock. He accepts referrals via the FDS referral system.
