Specialist Practices

The following Specialist Practices are contracted by BCUHB to provide Orthodontic Services to patients under the age of 18.

NHS orthodontics can be accessed at these practices through referral from a General Dental Practitioner.

The decision as to whether a child is eligible for NHS treatment will be made by the Orthodontist. NHS orthodontic care is available to under 18s who require orthodontic treatment for dental health reasons such as severe crowding or protrusion of the teeth. Unfortunately treatment for more cosmetic problems is not usually available on the NHS.

Referral protocol for Welsh Practices

All Orthodontic referrals MUST be made using the Universal Orthodontic Referral Form

An accompanying letter providing additional detail along with radiographs is perfectly acceptable.

Referral protocol for English Practices

The following Chester practices are currently accepting referrals from North Wales Practitioners:

Practitioners in Flintshire and Wrexham may also refer eligible patients to Chester Specialist Orthodontic Practices via www.dental-referrals.org

It is not currently compulsory for practitioners in Wales to send the referral electronically. The referral form can be printed out and sent to the Warrington address but a PRN number must be used.
